On Friday River had a truly busy day for a baby. We saw Dr. Escobar, her general pediatric surgeon, who has now done two procedures on her. It has been about 3 weeks since her G-Tube surgery, and it’s healing pretty good.
He recommended some extra wound care for it since one side has a fairly large gap and is healing slowly, the nurse put this stuff called Aligisite (http://wound.smith-nephew.com/UK/node.asp?NodeId=3754). This promotes faster wound healing, and it’s been incredible! In just a few days I can’t believe how this little divot has started filling in and looks amazing better! I change the Aligisite everyday, and we have a follow up with the NP today about it.
She also had a second doctor appointment on the same day with hers and Ewan’s pediatrician Dr. Mason Oltman(note to self, get photos). It was her 9 month check up, and he is very impressed with her excellent growth! She is up on the regular scales (not preemie scales) at the 25th percentile for both weight and height!!! Her head size continues along a good growth curve but likes to sit at the 3rd percentile. If we adjusted for her 2 month prematurity, she would be at the 50th percentile for weight and height! She is 17 pounds 5 ounces, and is 26.75 inches long. Everything has just skyrocketed since her VSD repair, and he is very happy with her development. The gross motor delays she is having are very reasonable and very expected for her prematurity and her health condition set backs. He is not concerned that she won’t eventually catch up, especially since she goes to PT regularly and is being monitored also at the neonatal clinic. She also had to deal with 2 vaccinations at the visit, the more unpleasant part of the appointment.
Here is a photo of River and Dr. Mauricio Escobar, she is also very interested in the stethoscope. We will be back to see him in about 3 more weeks for her switch out to the Mic-Key G-tube! Can’t wait! It’s much smaller and will be very comfortable for her.
